Frequently Asked Questions
Everything Austin homeowners ask us about lawn care, pricing, and getting started.
Lawn Mowing
During the peak growing season (April through September), most Austin lawns benefit from weekly mowing. In the cooler months, every other week is usually enough. We’ll recommend a cadence based on your grass type and how fast it grows.
By default we mulch clippings, which returns nutrients to the soil and reduces waste. If you prefer bagging — for example during heavy growth or leaf season — just let us know and we’ll bag and haul them away.
We typically maintain St. Augustine at 3 to 4 inches. Cutting it too short scalps the lawn and lets weeds move in, so we follow the one-third rule and never remove more than a third of the blade in a single mow.
No. As long as we have gate access, you don’t need to be home. We’ll text you when the crew is on the way and again when the job is complete, with photos on request.
Fertilization & Weed Control
Most Austin lawns do best with five to seven applications spread across the year. This covers spring green-up, summer feeding, fall root-building, and the pre-emergent weed windows in late winter and early fall.
Yes. Our technicians are state-licensed applicators and we follow all label directions. We simply ask that people and pets stay off the treated area until it has dried, which is usually about one to two hours.
You’ll usually notice deeper color within one to two weeks of the first application. A visibly thicker, weed-free lawn typically develops over the first full season as the program builds soil health.
Mowing keeps weeds short but doesn’t stop them from spreading. Weeds thrive in thin, underfed turf. A combination of proper feeding and pre-emergent treatment starves them out by growing grass thick enough to crowd them.
Aeration & Overseeding
Warm-season grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia are best aerated in late spring through early summer when they’re actively growing. If you’re overseeding a cool-season lawn, early fall is the ideal window.
Most Austin lawns benefit from core aeration once a year, especially those with heavy clay soil or high foot traffic. Very compacted or high-traffic yards may benefit from twice-yearly aeration.
Yes. Keep the soil consistently moist with light, frequent watering for the first two to three weeks so new seed can germinate. We’ll leave you a simple watering schedule after the service.
No — before we begin, we ask you to flag sprinkler heads and any shallow lines, or we’ll locate visible heads ourselves. Our crews aerate carefully around all marked irrigation components.
Seasonal Cleanup
Spring cleanups are best in February through March, before new growth takes off. Fall cleanups work best from late November into December, once most leaves have dropped. Booking early secures your preferred date in our busy seasons.
Yes. Every cleanup includes hauling and responsible disposal of all leaves, cuttings, and yard debris. You won’t be left with bags piled at the curb.
Both. Many customers book seasonal cleanups twice a year, but we’re happy to do a single one-time cleanup — for example before an event or after a storm.
Fall cleanups focus on clearing leaf drop and preparing the lawn for dormancy. Spring cleanups remove winter debris, cut back dead growth, and prep beds so everything is ready for the growing season.
Landscape Design
We favor native and adapted species that thrive in Central Texas heat with minimal water — think salvia, lantana, agave, Texas sage, and native ornamental grasses. They look great year-round and dramatically reduce your water bill.
A typical residential project runs one to three weeks from approved design to finished install, depending on scope. Larger projects with hardscape or heavy planting take longer, and we’ll give you a clear timeline up front.
Absolutely — water-wise design is our specialty. We build landscapes around drought-tolerant plantings, efficient bed layouts, and mulch that retains moisture, so your yard stays beautiful even under watering restrictions.
Yes. Because we handle year-round lawn and landscape care, we can keep your new design looking its best with ongoing maintenance. We design with future upkeep in mind so it stays manageable.
